Students sitting Cambridge International AS- and A-level exams in spring next year will receive their results almost two weeks earlier, it has been announced.

Results for the June 2027 exam series will be released on 28 July, Cambridge International Education revealed today. For comparison, 2026 results for AS- and A-level qualifications were issued on 11 August.

Cambridge said the change was in response to feedback that earlier results would make a practical difference by giving students more time to confirm university places in some countries, complete enrolment, apply for visas and arrange travel.

For some students, it said, earlier results would allow them to take up a university place in the same calendar year, where previously they could not.

Earlier results, it added, are also viewed favourably by universities, which welcome the extra time to review applications, confirm offers and resolve queries, and greater certainty when planning their international intake.

“Releasing results earlier gives students more time to sort out their next steps, said Rod Smith, Cambridge International Education group managing director.

“We have planned this move very carefully so that schools and universities can have the same confidence in the results as they do now.

The change follows a similar decision by OxfordAQA to publish international AS- and A-level results for the May/June exam series by the end of July - and to release international GCSE results one week later.

Cambridge, however, said the results date for the June series Cambridge IGCSE and O-level results remains unchanged.

“The real imperative is AS and A level in the first instance, so we are going to get it right there and look at other series over time and see what we can do,â€ Smith told ÌÇÐÄVlog.

Earlier results ‘help with university places’

Responding to the news, Rita Hayek Maalouf, director of the Cambridge School of Bucharest in Romania, described the change as “practical and said her school was fully supportive of the initiative, given that Romanian universities are among those that often begin admissions and enrolment processes during July and early August.

The result of this, she said, was “a relatively short timeframe to complete the registration process - with deadlines “sometimes impossible for students to meet.

She added: “For students in Romania, the benefits are particularly significant. Earlier access to final results provides valuable additional time to complete university enrolment procedures, submit required documentation and secure places at Romanian universities before key deadlines.

“This reduces unnecessary pressure during the summer period and helps ensure a smoother transition from secondary education to higher education.

Ms Hayek Maalouf also said that the change would bring A levels in line with other international pathways like the International Baccalaureate - which the Cambridge School of Bucharest also offers.

IB Diploma Programme results are issued at the beginning of July. She said this gave students “a significant advantage when applying to universities “in Romania, Central Europe and the Nordic countries, where admissions and enrolment processes often begin earlier in the summer.

“Bringing A-level results forward helps create a more comparable timeline for students following different international pathways.

“Overall, the change should reduce unnecessary pressure on students and families and support a smoother transition.

Wayne Johnson, director of the Cambridge International School of Bratislava in Slovakia, also welcomed the move, saying the extra time would reduce anxiety - especially for students who do not get the results they are expecting.

“They have more time to contact the admissions teams at universities, have remarks or look for alternative destinations, without it all being rushed, which causes added stress, he explained.

However, there is “one drawback, he pointed out, because results will now be issued “in July during the height of the school holidays.

This means an impact on staffing would have to be considered, he said.

Still, he emphasised, the change is “a positive thing overall.
