International exams provider OxfordAQA has announced changes for its International A levels and AS levels and IGCSEs

International A-level and International GCSE exams provider OxfordAQA has announced changes to its examination series that will have implications for schools across the world.

Perhaps most notably, starting from next year, OxfordAQA will provide International AS- and A-level results for the May/June exams series by the end of July, and International GCSE results one week later.

This will mean the results are issued several weeks earlier than exam results in England, which OxfordAQA said will give international A-level candidates more time to consider university options and International GCSE students more time to plan their next steps.

One leader in the Middle East whose schools use OxfordAQA told Vlog this was a “brilliant idea” and it would “remove a lot of stress” from university applications for students.

New exam series in October

Another notable change is that from 2028, OxfordAQA will introduce a full International AS- and A-level exam series in October and November for all subjects.

This will give candidates more options about when to enter exams, and open up more markets for OxfordAQA in the Southern Hemisphere.

Linked to this, International Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) students can now submit work in May or November, to help align with their chosen exam window.

Meanwhile, from 2029 the exam board will offer a third entry window for the International AS- and A-level exam series in January for biology, chemistry, physics, maths, further maths and economics.

Finally, the exam board will offer a later entries deadline for May/June exams so that schools will know students’ outcomes from any January International AS- and A-level units. This will begin next March. Exam dates will not be changed due to this, though.

OxfordAQA will be providing more information on the changes  on 27 April 2026.

The announcement of the changes comes amid major disruption for the exam board after it had to confirm the cancellation of examinations across the Middle East due to the war in the region. It will instead provide results to students based on coursework and teacher assessments.
