Hundreds of thousands of students in 128 countries today received their Cambridge International AS- and A-level results, as the August exam results season got underway.
Just under 368,000 students in nearly 3,500 international schools received International AS- and A-level results. The total number of entries this year - 737,000 - represented an increase of 5 per cent compared with 2025.
For the second year in a row, the five most popular subjects in terms of the numbers of entries were exactly the same: English general paper, mathematics, physics, chemistry and English language.
Rod Smith, group managing director of international education at Cambridge, said: “Congratulations to all our students receiving results today and next week.
“More students are turning to our A levels because they combine deep subject knowledge with the skills universities and employers value most.”
Mr Smith suggested that this combination is helping to drive growth “in a world shaped by AI”.
Rise in entries for Cambridge International A levels
A Cambridge spokesperson told Vlog that the rising popularity of its international AS and A levels was reflected by entries being up 7 per cent in China, 5 per cent in Bangladesh, 12 per cent in Indonesia and 5 per cent in Saudi Arabia.
They added that the June exam series showed the “resilience” of its community amid “adverse circumstances” in the Middle East.
“In parts of the Middle East, school closures caused by regional conflict meant exams could not be sat safely, affecting almost 30,000 Cambridge students,” the spokesperson said.
“Schools worked closely with Cambridge to deliver a , an established contingency method that assesses students on a range of work marked by Cambridge examiners.”
Universities recognise the results awarded through the portfolio, Cambridge said.
The June exam series also marked the first time that exams were delivered on screen across various subjects. Cambridge said its on-screen programme was developed with schools and rolled out as an option for students who preferred digital assessments to paper exams.
More than 315,000 students in 4,949 schools who sat Cambridge IGCSE and O-level qualifications will receive their results on 18 August.
Students who sat standard A levels in schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will receive their results on Thursday 13 August. For GCSE students in the UK, results will be available on Thursday 20 August
