New teachers are learning significantly more from the updated Early Career Framework (ECF) than in previous years, polling suggests.

Some 32 per cent of respondents agreed that they “learned a lot from the ECF that they did not know from experience or their initial teacher training”, in the first major survey since the framework launched in 2025.

This has more than doubled from 2024, when just 15 per cent answered in the same way.

The polling from Teacher Tapp represents a positive verdict on the newly revised ECF, which early career teachers (ECTs) follow for their first two years in the profession.

Early career support package gains favour

The ECF and initial teacher training frameworks were combined in 2025. The entire early career framework will be subject to a review in 2027.

The government rolled together the two frameworks in a bid to improve recruitment and retention, following concerns from ECTs about high workload and lack of flexibility.

Teacher Tapp has polled new teachers every year since 2022 about their views on the ECF.

In 2022, 64 per cent of ECTs disagreed that they had learned a lot from the ECF. Four years later, this number has almost halved to just 33 per cent, according to the polling shared with Vlog.

Updates to the framework include sections on supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, as well as on early cognitive development, oracy, and children’s mental health.
