New shoes? Check. Newly stocked pencil case? Check. Emergency doughnuts as comfort food? Check. The return to school after the long summer holidays can be an emotional time. So it was perhaps no surprise that social media today fizzed with comments.

Here are some we liked:

Amid fears for modern languages teaching, the Doctorattempted to motivate us by resorting to French:

And of course, it was vital to make sure the new Year 7s - and everyone else -felt welcome:
