Give middle school students a realistic introduction to entrepreneurship, business, and financial decision-making with this six-week Entrepreneurship unit for Grades 6–8. Students move from identifying a viable business opportunity to calculating profit, setting prices, building a business plan, and delivering an evidence-based pitch.

Please note: This listing includes the Unit 6 student book only. The accompanying teacher resources and bonus materials support the complete six-unit, 30-week Personal Finance curriculum.

The 86-page student unit covers Weeks 31–36. Each week includes original reading, comprehension, vocabulary, 10 financial math problems, data analysis, realistic case studies, hands-on activities or simulations, spreadsheet modeling, argument writing, review, and reflection.

Students begin by distinguishing interesting ideas from validated business opportunities. They explore value propositions, target markets, competitors, differentiation, feasibility, and customer validation. In the Opportunity Validation Investigation, students research customer behavior, analyze existing alternatives, and determine whether a business idea meets defined viability conditions.

The profit lesson introduces fixed and variable costs, contribution margin, break-even point, gross margin, net profit, markup, and economies of scale. Students build a business model and test how changes in price and costs affect profitability.

Students then investigate cost-plus, competitive, value-based, premium, and penetration pricing, along with price elasticity, and perceived value. They model how pricing decisions affect profit and justify their choices using evidence.

The marketing lesson covers customer acquisition cost, lifetime value, conversion rates, retention, branding, and marketing channels. Students design a three-channel marketing test, analyze results, and recommend a budget allocation.

Students then assemble a complete business plan, including an executive summary, financial projections, assumptions, cash flow, startup costs, milestones, and risks. They create a 12-month financial projection and distinguish accounting profit from available cash.

The unit culminates in a Business Pitch and Financial Reflection. Students present and defend their business case, respond to questions and objections, support claims with data, create a personal financial plan, and stress-test their projections.

Key activities include Opportunity Validation Investigation, Break-Even Modeling, Pricing Analysis, Business Plan Assembly, and Pitch and Portfolio Defense.

Alignment includes CEE, Jump$tart, and Common Core mathematics and ELA standards.

This unit makes entrepreneurship active rather than theoretical. Students test ideas, calculate break-even points, evaluate pricing and marketing, build financial projections, and deliver a final pitch where evidence matters more than confidence.
