32 British English multiple-choice task cards for selected England Year 5 English consolidation: join main clauses, choose conjunctions for addition, contrast, choice and result, and practise a consistent comma-before-conjunction pattern. Coordination starts earlier; suitable for pupils ready to identify main clauses. Not a whole Year 5 curriculum or a claim that every short compound sentence needs a comma.

14 A4 pages: cover, adult how-to-use guide, eight card pages (four cards per page), one 32-box recording sheet, two explained answer pages and terms. Twenty comma-pattern questions and twelve conjunction-meaning questions, each with A/B/C options. Original 32 card positions, sentence contexts and answer letters retained, with British vocabulary and clarified prompts. Sentence contexts deliberately recur across cards; not 32 unique scenarios.

British punctuation allows omission of a comma between short, closely linked main clauses in some styles. These cards explicitly ask for this pack’s selected pattern: comma BEFORE and/but/or/so, not an extra comma after it. This is practice in a chosen style, not a rule that other valid British styles are wrong. Conjunction questions specify the intended relationship to avoid context-dependent ambiguity.

Print card pages3–10 and recording sheet11. Model both main clauses and the meaning of the conjunction. Work seated, in pairs or small groups, using4–8 cards or all32. Write letters in numbered boxes; discuss reasons orally or in an exercise book. Keep keys12–13 with the adult. No time limit required; adult read-aloud/enlargement support may be used.

An adult may cut cards beforehand; pupil cutting and lamination are not required. Optional movement must be walking with clear routes; seated passing is sufficient. Candle and swimming examples are grammar only, not practical activities. Adult handles cutting/lamination equipment.

Single-classroom licence. Buyer receives one14-page PDF, also supplied alone in a PDF-only ZIP. Public preview includes cover and four uncompleted pupil cards only; no key or filled recording sheet.
