Year 4 Catholic RE lesson plans for Branch 1: Creation and Covenant, with seven sequenced 80-minute lessons. Explore Abraham, Sarah, Isaac and Joseph, God’s covenant promises, theological virtues and prayers of faith through engaging, classroom-ready activities.

This complete Year 4 RE unit supports pupils aged 8–9 to explore faith, trust, obedience, forgiveness and God’s covenant relationship with his people. Each weekly lesson is planned for 80 minutes and includes a natural break point for teaching as two 40-minute sessions.

*Designed for Year 4 pupils aged 8–9, this resource is part of the Discerning Disciples Curriculum and aligns with the Archdiocese of Birmingham Catholic RE curriculum. The lessons are structured using the DISCERN pedagogical model.

Pupils encounter God’s covenant promises through the lives of Abraham and Sarah, consider faith and obedience through the story of Abraham and Isaac, and explore God’s providence and forgiveness through Joseph’s story. They make connections between God’s covenant with Abraham and Jesus, then develop their understanding of the theological virtues of Faith, Hope and Love through scripture, prayer and reflection.
