Give your Year 4 class a quick grammar warm-up with The Skybound River. A fantasy illustration of a tiny boat on a glowing river sets the scene for eight short activities that build towards a two-sentence writing challenge.

Pupils will practise:

Spotting past-tense verbs and changing regular and irregular verbs into the past tense

Finding adjectives and choosing them to describe nouns

Rewriting a sentence in the past tense

Using the Word of the Day, mysterious, in their own writing

Includes a reusable SEND sentence-builder sheet for the whole week. The sheet has three colour-coded groups: Who? (subject), Doing? (past-tense verb) and What? (object). Each group has six illustrated choices. Pupils choose one tile from each group, say their sentence aloud, then write it in their books. They can return to the same sheet each day and build different sentences using a familiar routine.

Ideal for morning work, a grammar starter or a short supported writing session.
