Counting in steps with a bakery theme. Children count bakes in pairs, plates of three, boxes of five and trays of ten, continue patterns forwards and backwards in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s, and count on and back in tens from any number. Pip the baker cat’s reasoning question tackles a common mistake: if you count in 5s from 0, will you say 52?

The sheet comes in three differentiated levels (Supported , Core , Extending ), all practising the same skill. You can hand out all three in one lesson and the whole class works on the same objective. A teacher’s answers page with the matching National Curriculum objective is included.

What’s Inside
a. â— Supported: count pictures of bakes in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s, with a starter strip.
b. Core: continue patterns forwards and backwards, including tens from numbers like 7 and 93.
c. Extending: missing numbers, spot the mistake, multiples of 3, odd and even, and reasoning.
d. Teacher’s note and answer sheet.

Curriculum Link
Supports the Year 2 National Curriculum (Number and place value): ‘count in steps of 2, 3, and 5 from 0, and in tens from any number, forward and backward’.

Great for: independent practice, small groups, intervention, homework, assessment and early finishers.

Format
One 5-page A4 PDF: teacher’s note, three worksheets and an answers page. Made for Year 2 (ages 6–7) and useful for Year 3 consolidation. Written in UK English, it prints clearly in colour or black and white and needs no preparation: just print and go.
