20 reusable SEND number-grid boards with clear 18 pt numbers, four skill bands, teacher guidance, a worked example and complete answer keys.

Purposeful number practice
Pupils find the number hidden by each letter, respond, then check using a visible neighbour. Use one board or a small part of it for starters, intervention, consolidation or supported independent practice.

Included in the reviewed edition

  • 32-page main PDF with 20 boards, one per page. The original board codes are retained.
  • 110 hidden numbers across the boards, with all answers included.
  • Band 3 also has ten extra questions in total; Band 4 asks for the right/down grid rules.
  • Teacher routine, skill and prerequisite guide, worked example, selective print index and answer guidance.
  • Optional number strips and cut-apart number cards for 1-20.
  • Grid numerals at 18 pt or larger and pupil instructions at 16 pt when printed A4 at 100%. Adult guidance and labels use smaller text.
  • A separate five-page preview repeats genuine pages from the pack.

Four bands, chosen by skill
Band 1: 1-20, five columns, three hidden numbers per board.

Band 2: 1-50, ten columns, five hidden numbers per board.

Band 3: 1-100/120, ten columns, six hidden numbers plus two extra questions per board, including 1 and 10 more/less.

Band 4: changing starts and steps: 47-96, 176-225, odd numbers 3-101, multiples of 5 from 25-270, and decreasing tens 500-10. Eight hidden numbers and two direction rules per board.

The bands describe the task demand, not automatic Early KS1/KS1/Early KS2/KS2 attainment. Content revisits selected KS1 number skills and extends to three-digit number work relevant to lower KS2. This is a practice bank, not a complete curriculum or standardised assessment.

Preparation and access
For primary pupils and older SEND learners, including ages 11-14 and 14-16. Select by the specific skill and prerequisites, separately from chronological age.

Print selected pages at actual size / 100%; laminate if useful. Provide a pencil or mini whiteboard. Up to 20 counters can support Band 1; optional printed 1-20 supports are included. An adult prepares cut-apart pieces. Physical equipment is not supplied.

Model the routine first. Accept speech, selected number choices, pointing, AAC, exact dictation or writing where appropriate. Pupils can point to a letter instead of naming it. Use a reading window or enlarge to A3 if needed. Record response mode separately from mathematical help; speed and handwriting are not the maths target.
