What Is in the Box? is a fun guessing game for EYFS and KS1 that develops speaking, listening, vocabulary and thinking skills.
The resource includes boy and girl templates holding different mystery boxes, which teachers or children can fill in with their own five clues.
It also includes ready-made examples covering familiar themes such as toys (teddy bear), food and drink (milk), fruit (apple), animals (tiger), transport (bus) and Christmas (Christmas pudding).
Children listen to the clues, make predictions and explain their thinking before saying, writing /drawing their answers.

The activity is easy to differentiate for SEND and different abilities by using pictures or objects, simplifying the language, reading clues aloud, reducing the number of choices, or using more challenging and less obvious clues.

Children can also create their own clue sheets, making the resource suitable for whole-class teaching, small groups, interventions, partner work and independent learning.

Included also, is a sheet ‘Games to play with EYFS and KS1 Children’ which explains how to play, and gives 10 ways to use the resource together with ‘what to do’ and ‘skills involved’.
