Transport Alphabet Search with Symbols is a visual alphabet activity for SEND and KS1 learners using familiar Boardmaker licensed symbols.
The resource includes one A–Z worksheet in colour and the same worksheet duplicated in black and white, featuring a vehicle for each letter of the alphabet shown in simple picture/symbol form. Vehicles include a range of land, sea and air transport, supporting vocabulary development and real-world understanding.
Suggested uses in the classroom:
Children search for and identify the vehicle that matches each letter, saying the initial sound aloud to support phonics and early reading.
As they find each picture, children can tick the letter, write the initial sound, or label the vehicle on a white board or in their workbook.
The worksheet can also be used for sentence writing, with children orally rehearsing or writing a simple sentence about each vehicle (e.g. “The car drives on the road.”).
An extension activity is to sort the vehicles into land, sea and air, either by discussing, listing , cutting and sorting, or colouring using a code.
The resource is suitable for whole-class teaching, small groups, or individual and supported learning and links to Transport topics, phonics, reading, writing, speaking and listening, and inclusive classroom practice.
