Make times-table practice playful with six codebreaker puzzles for Years 3–4, each supplied in support and challenge versions with teacher answers.

Pupils solve calculations and use a number-to-letter key to reveal a four-letter word. They then complete additional calculation practice and write a related multiplication and division fact.

The puzzles practise the 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 times tables.

Two versions of every puzzle are included:
• Support – a multiplication fact strip helps pupils work through the clues.
• Challenge – mixed multiplication and division without the fact strip.

Clear instructions, a friendly robot character and space to record answers make the sheets suitable for independent practice after teaching, lesson starters, small-group support, homework or early-finisher activities.

Included files:
• Learner puzzles as a printable PDF: 12 sheets in total.
• The same learner puzzles as an editable Word (.docx) document.
• Separate teacher answers as a PDF, covering both versions.
• The same teacher answers as an editable Word (.docx) document.

This is a set of six puzzles in two versions, rather than twelve different puzzles. Letter keys are specific to each puzzle. Editable Word files let you adapt wording and spacing; if you change calculations or code keys, update the answers too.

Word and PDF versions contain the same material.
