Times tables are about more than memorising facts!

Beyond Recall is a thoughtfully designed collection of multiplication worksheets that encourages children to develop a deeper understanding of times tables through patterns, representations, mathematical connections, reasoning and problem-solving.

Rather than focusing solely on rapid recall, this resource helps pupils explore why multiplication facts work, make connections between known and unknown facts, and develop confidence in explaining their mathematical thinking.

What’s Included?

This resource includes 22 beautifully designed worksheet pages, with two pages dedicated to each times table from ×2 to ×12.

Each times table follows a consistent structure with 10 engaging activities:

See the Pattern – Explore number sequences and identify mathematical patterns.

Build It – Develop conceptual understanding using arrays, repeated addition and number lines.

Fact Families – Explore the relationship between multiplication and division.

Use What You Know – Apply known facts and make connections between times tables.

Spot and Fix – Identify misconceptions and explain mathematical errors.

Missing Numbers – Develop fluency and inverse-operation understanding.

Same or Different? – Compare calculations and identify relationships.

True or False? – Encourage mathematical reasoning and justification.

Convince Me – Challenge pupils to explain, prove and generalise their thinking.

Apply It – Use multiplication knowledge to solve real-life problems.

Each worksheet also includes a Rapid Recall section to strengthen fluency and automaticity.

Perfect For

Year 3 and Year 4 multiplication and division lessons
Independent maths practice

Fluency extension and reasoning activities

Adaptive teaching and targeted support

Maths interventions and consolidation

Morning activities, continuous provision and homework

Why Beyond Recall?

Secure times-table knowledge is essential, but meaningful understanding helps children become flexible, confident mathematicians.

This resource supports a teaching approach that values understanding alongside fluency, encouraging children to notice patterns, use efficient strategies, make connections and explain their reasoning.

With a calm, consistent and child-friendly design, Beyond Recall makes multiplication practice purposeful, accessible and engaging.

Because knowing the answer matters — but understanding the mathematics behind it matters too.
