Pupils use modal verbs, adverbs of possibility, relative clauses for characterisation and parenthesis to weave in Bradley’s contradictory inner voice.

Grammar features (Year 5 NC-aligned)

• Relative clauses (using who, which, that, whose, where) to characterise a person without simply listing adjectives.
• Parenthesis using brackets, dashes and commas to drop in a second ‘voice’ — used here to interrupt Bradley’s outward speech with his real, imagined inner dialogue.
