Step into the world of exciting theme park design with Theme Park Thrills, a KS2 project led by Billy Ding - a fictional urban planner, architect and engineer who specialises in designing amazing places for people to explore and enjoy. In this challenge, Billy is looking for a team of creative designers to help him plan a brand-new family theme park, using only their imagination, paper and pencil to create unforgettable attractions, themed lands and thrilling experiences.
The challenge is broken into five short, accessible tasks:
Explore Theme Parks: Investigate real theme parks (or sketch from what you already know) and note their themes, rides and entertainment.
Choose a Theme & Name: Decide on the main idea for your park, then create a name and simple logo that fits your chosen theme.
Draw the Park Map: Design a top-down map with themed lands, rides, food areas and shops. Add a clear key and eye-catching details.
Design a Signature Ride: Select one ride to develop in detail, showing what type it is, how it works and whether it tells a story.
Invent a Park Character: Create a character visitors could meet. Draw them and write a short backstory explaining how they belong in your park.
The included task sheet can be used as a compact mini-project for homework, enrichment activities or end-of-term challenges, while the overview can be used to expand the project into a larger design and enterprise unit with opportunities for additional writing, art, DT, mapping and presentation work.
This resource supports creativity, research skills, mapping, explanation writing and world-building. Whether used as homework, an independent project or an end-of-term challenge, Theme Park Thrills gives pupils the chance to think like designers and bring an entirely new world to life.
