The Tale of Timmy Tiptoes synopsis:
When Timmy Tiptoes is wrongly accused of stealing nuts, by Silvertail Squirrel and a pair of lying singing birds, so his fellow squirrels imprison him in a hollow tree. There he meets Chippy Hackee, a mischievous chipmunk who has fled his troubled marriage. Chippy encourages Timmy to eat the stored nuts to regain his strength but in the process, he becomes too big to exit the tree. Timmy’s wife, Goody is worried about her husband. He promises to lose weight so that he can return home, but will he be able to say no to Chippy’s stash of nuts before the season changes? Find out in the tale of Timmy Tiptoes readers’ theatre unit!

Mr. Marvel’s Musings:
There is a character listed as “Squirrels”. I usually have the entire class say that line. You may also assign that role to a group of students to make them feel comfortable with the readers’ theatre experience and setting.

Do not fear the reader’s theater format. Students love these adapted stories because they are listening to the story and they are a part of the story by playing a character within the story.

Reader’s theatre inspires reluctant readers to join in the fun. The strongest and most advanced readers in your class will encourage other students to raise their hand and participate in the story. I also use reader’s theatre to add to my drama marks.
