A complete, teacher-built scheme of work for Agatha Christie鈥檚 The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, designed for AQA A-Level English Literature B (7717/2A): Texts and Genres, Elements of Crime Writing. Thirty fully sequenced lessons take students from genre fundamentals to A* examination performance, with every lesson built on the eight-stage Rosenshine structure and mapped to the AQA assessment objectives.

This scheme treats the novel both as Golden Age detective fiction and as the landmark experiment in narrative unreliability it is famous for, with Dr Sheppard鈥檚 role as narrator-and-criminal threaded through the whole sequence so the twist pays off the teaching that precedes it.

What鈥檚 Included

  • 30 fully resourced lessons organised into five teaching batches: Genre and Context; The Investigation and the Detective; Method, Structure and Misdirection; The Twist, Metafiction and Criticism; and Examination Mastery.
  • Complete Gamma presentation markdown for all 30 lessons (12 slides each, 360 slides total), ready to paste straight into Gamma. Every slide carries real teaching content: explanatory material, modelled analysis, guided and independent tasks, and a hinge question.
  • Medium-Term Plan with full lesson-by-lesson overview, AO mapping and assessment points.
  • Five Knowledge Organiser panels covering terminology, character, method, the twist and exam craft, each with context anchors.
  • Five Retrieval Practice Grids (50 questions with answers) for low-stakes recall at the start of each batch.
  • A* Extension Pack with critical voices, challenge tasks and model lines of sophisticated argument for your most able students.
  • Three differentiated Annotated Mark Schemes modelled on the AQA Section B single-text question, each with dominant AOs and three-tier indicative content.
  • Text Pairing Guide showing how to build a compliant crime-writing trio around this post-1900 prose text.
