The Jaguar Mighty Cat of the Americas
About:
The jaguar is the largest big cat native to the Americas and one of
the most powerful predators in the animal kingdom. Studying the
jaguar helps students understand adaptation, food webs, and the
importance of apex predators in maintaining healthy ecosystems.
Because the jaguar is currently listed as Near Threatened, it also
offers a real-world example of how habitat loss and human activity
affect wildlife populations. This worksheet covers the jaguar biology,
behavior, habitat, and conservation status through a variety of
activities.
What鈥檚 Included:
This worksheet features Animal Facts (16 fields), Article (5
paragraphs), True/False (16 statements), Comprehension Questions
(6), Multiple Choice (15), Word Search (15 words), Crossword (10
clues), and Odd One Out (30 words).
Target Grades:
Grades 5-8
Teacher Note:
Studying the jaguar gives students a strong example of how body
structure, such as an extremely powerful bite, connects directly to
hunting behavior and survival. As a classroom tip, try having students
compare the jaguar top speed of 80 kilometers per hour to the speed
limit on a nearby road, or compare its weight to something familiar
like a large dog or an adult human.
