1-Hour Lesson – Fully Interactive – Ready to Teach

Imagine the American West at a turning point — Native American lands formally divided, promises of peace made, and the stage set for profound cultural change. This lesson focuses on the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1851 and its consequences.

This lesson is the eighteenth in a unit on the American West. It explores the treaty, its impact on Native American life, and the broader changes to the Plains. Students will consolidate their knowledge of events and apply it to exam-style questions through interactive tasks.

All lessons in this series follow a consistent structure, supporting coherent learning and helping students track their progress:

LO 1:To revise the reasons of hostility between whites and Indians.
LO 2: To connect the factors that led to the Treaty.
LO3: To evaluate the terms of the Treaty and its impact on Indians.
