This engaging and thought-provoking KS3 lesson explores the impact of the British Empire on India, asking students to evaluate whether British rule brought progress—or prevented it. Students will investigate India before, during, and after British control by exploring key areas such as conquest, trade, and how society was organised under the Raj.

Using structured tasks, historical sources, and scaffolded writing, learners will assess the pace and impact of change from 1757 to 1947, including the effects of the Industrial Revolution, famines, resistance movements, and Gandhi’s Salt March.
