A clear, practical Subject Leader Action Plan template for primary schools, designed to support effective subject leadership, monitoring and school improvement.

This editable template helps subject leaders identify their key priorities for the term, plan manageable actions and evaluate the impact of their work on pupils.

The resource includes:

  • a starting point section to identify strengths and areas requiring attention
  • space for two focused and achievable priorities
  • links to school improvement priorities
  • actions, responsibilities and timescales
  • time and resource considerations
  • success criteria focused on impact for pupils
  • suggested monitoring evidence, including work scrutiny, pupil voice and assessment
  • end-of-term review and impact sections
  • a final summary to identify priorities moving forward

The template has deliberately been designed to keep subject leadership focused and manageable, rather than creating unnecessary paperwork. Subject leaders are encouraged to choose up to two meaningful priorities based on evidence and to consider how they will know whether their actions have made a difference.

Suitable for primary subject leaders, curriculum leaders, SLT and headteachers. It can be used for individual subjects across the curriculum and adapted for different school improvement priorities.

Fully editable so you can add your own school logo, terminology and priorities.
