Coaching Conversations can be used by teachers, pastoral staff, mentors, behaviour and inclusion staff, or any adult providing regular support to a young person. It can be used as a one-off reflective check-in or become part of an ongoing school support process.

The Check-In Coaching Wheel invites students to reflect on eight areas including their strengths, organisation, relationships, asking for help and dealing with challenges. Their responses provide a starting point for talking about what is going well, where they may need support and anything they would like to change.

The resource can be used with any student but may be particularly helpful for young people receiving additional support. Used alongside a support plan, behaviour plan or report, it helps give the student an active role in the process, ensuring that their perspective is included alongside the support already being provided. In black and white so it鈥檚 easy to copy and personalise.

Practitioner guidance and coaching questions help adults explore student鈥檚 responses without treating scores as an assessment or assuming that a lower score automatically needs to become a target. Students are encouraged to recognise what is already working, consider what they might like to feel differently about and identify small, achievable next steps.

The My Actions for This Week sheet helps students turn the conversation into one or two manageable actions. It includes space to consider what might help, how someone else can support them, who will check in with them and how things go across the week. The wheel can then be revisited as part of the review process.

The 5-page PDF includes:
