This teaching unit is designed to prepare students for Papers 1 and 3 on the topic of Equal Rights, with a particular focus on LGBTQI+ rights (a 35-slide PowerPoint). The aim is for students to reflect on homophobia through the case of Samuel Luiz.

Based on authentic journalistic texts from El País and RTVE, I have created the following exam-style activities and questions:

• A Do Now activity based on an LGBTQI+ glossary.
• Watching authentic news videos about the case of Samuel Luiz.
• An exam-style question requiring students to find words with the same meaning.
• An exam-style question requiring extended answers (similar to Question 9 in Paper 1).
• A speaking photo card about homophobia (Paper 3).
• An end-of-unit assessment based on the game Jeopardy! (16 questions) to practice vocabulary and tense conjugation (Past tenses and Subjunctive mood).
• A quote by Pedro Zerolo.
• An appendix with further information about the legal situation of LGBTQI+ people around the world.
• An answer key is included.

Teachers can use the content in class with a 35-slide PowerPoint, while students can also use the materials to practise independently and prepare for the exam.
Please don’t forget to leave your feedback. I would really appreciate it!
Muchas gracias. :)
