A Level Music Technology revision guides for Edexcel 9MT0, AOS 3: small-scale multitrack (c.1964–1969). Bouncing, tape effects, plate reverb, early stereo.

With only four tracks, records were built in layers and every bounce cost quality. These two guides show how that shaped the sound of the 1960s.

What’s included
  • Visual Guide (9 pages): start here. One page per topic: a labelled diagram, six numbered facts, a So what? box, a track to hear it in, and three quick-fire questions with the answers printed upside down.
  • Study Guide (20 pages): go deeper. The same topics and diagrams, set out as Identify → State → Evaluate tables, with an overview, pre-lesson tasks and a top tip for each topic.
Topics
  1. Tracks, tape and bouncing
  2. Tape as an instrument: varispeed, reverse, loops, tape echo, ADT and flanging
  3. Reverb before digital: chamber, plate and spring
  4. Capture: close miking, spill and DI
  5. Valves, distortion and era instruments: Leslie, Mellotron, wah
  6. Mono, stereo and vinyl
Listening

A method for unfamiliar tracks, the era’s sound fingerprints, and a listening list from The Beatles and The Beach Boys to Jimi Hendrix and The Four Tops.

In the classroom
  • Linked guides: both use the same topics and diagrams. Each Visual Guide page points to its Study Guide topic, and each Study Guide topic points back.
  • Dual-coded pages: each diagram is matched to numbered facts, ready to use as a stimulus for lesson activities, flipped learning, expansion tasks and longer-form writing.
  • Quick-fire questions give a quick check of recall.
  • The Study Guide also explains the exam command words.
  • Print-ready A4 landscape PDFs.
