This Participate in Safe Work Practices unit covers the skills and knowledge required to participate in safe work practices in any work industry but particularly in the hospitality environment. Students learn to follow workplace health and safety (WHS) procedures and identify workplace hazards to contribute to a safe work environment. They also examine the roles and responsibilities of both the employer and employee in a WHS context.

There is a range of activities used to engage students including:

  • match the term to the definitions
  • workplace scenarios
  • video links
  • research tasks
  • cloze passages
  • match the item to its correct category

This unit covers both the NSW HSC Scope of Learning and the Australian National Training Package requirements. It covers all required topics:

  • Understand legislation and workplace procedures related to WHS (Work Health and Safety).
  • Identify and report risks and hazards.
  • Follow safety practices in handling equipment and chemicals.
  • Participate in workplace emergency procedures.
  • Understand the importance of teamwork and communication for safety
