This KS2 RE lesson introduces how Jewish families celebrate Shabbat in the UK, using clear case studies and a structured set of activities. Pupils learn when Shabbat begins and ends, explore Orthodox and Progressive traditions, and consider what Shabbat shows about Jewish values. The lesson supports pupils in describing practices and reflecting on family life and rest. It can be used in the unit ‘How do festivals and family life show what matters to jewish people?’.
The resource includes a full lesson plan, a 15‑slide PowerPoint, differentiated worksheets and a Shabbat table activity. It is suitable for Lower KS2 and Upper KS2 and links directly to curriculum objectives on Jewish beliefs, practices and festivals.
