This series of slides addresses a number of what we would now consider to be safeguarding issues in Romeo & Juliet. I am a teacher of 30 years experience and have been DSL for the best part of 15 years. These slides were prepared to support English teachers at my school and have been well received.

The safeguarding issues covered are:

Underage relationships
Forced marriage
Grooming / exploitation
Violence and conflict
Suicide and mental health
Domestic abuse
Substance misuse

For each issue the following slides are provided:

Title slide
3 relevant quotes from the text
Historical information about the issue n the 16th century for context
Current law or expectations
What the school would do if a young person asked for help
Helpful websites
A single slide summarising all of the above
Further information for teachers’ CPD
Possible FAQs from students and teacher scripts for answers

All slides are editable and customisable. 74 slides in total.

Most of the slides could be incorporated into a lesson presentation. The single slide could be used alone as a plenary slide. The final two slides in each section are intended for use by teachers only to upskill themselves and inspire confidence in preparation for the lesson. These would be useful as CPD even if you do not explicitly address the issues in a lesson to ensure teachers can competently and confidently field questions and challenge misconceptions.

If you purchase these slides I would really appreciate it if you could leave a review :)
