Rights and Responsibilities Reading Comprehension & Citizenship Worksheets
Explore rights and responsibilities, good citizenship, and rules and laws with this illustrated nonfiction reading comprehension pack. Designed for Years 6–8, it combines an accessible information text with 11 ready-to-use activities, differentiated comprehension questions, and complete answer keys.

Pupils investigate what makes a good citizen, why communities need rules, how laws are made and changed, and why legal requirements are not automatically fair. Familiar examples—including classroom behaviour, shared spaces, and online privacy—connect citizenship concepts to everyday life.

Historical examples develop understanding of civic participation. The text explores New Zealand’s 1893 women’s suffrage petition, Rosa Parks and the Montgomery bus boycott, and the significance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Authentic photographs, historical documents, and public information posters support engagement and understanding.

Suitable for upper KS2 and lower KS3, particularly Years 6–8. The text has a Lexile measure of 970L, with clear subheadings, vocabulary explanations, and concrete examples. Two differentiated written-response sets allow pupils to work with the same text at different levels of challenge.
