This resource takes pupils from identifying the hypotenuse through to applying a2 + b2 = c2 in context. It covers finding the hypotenuse by adding, finding a shorter side by subtracting, leaving answers in surd form, and problems involving ladders, screen sizes, coordinates and navigation. Three fully worked examples are included, each with a sense-check step. It is a ready-to-teach PowerPoint scaffold for an hour-long lesson on Pythagoras’ theorem. Includes a spot-the-error activity, a Pythagoras trail with a converse stretch task, and a slide correcting three common misconceptions.
