This complete bundle contains all six Pearson Edexcel IAL Biology Master Revision Guides for Units 1–6 (YBI11/XBI11). Covering IAS (Units 1–3) and IA2 (Units 4–6), this resource is aligned with the 2019–2025 exam series and based on Principal Examiner Reports (2019–2024). Whether you are a student aiming for A* or a teacher planning revision programmes, this bundle provides systematic coverage of every specification point.

Last updated with insights from the June 2024 exam series, this bundle includes priority heatmaps, evidence-based exam predictions, model answers, mathematical skills modules, and full practical skills coverage for both AS and A2.

What’s inside each guide?

Unit 1 (WBI11/01) – Molecules, Diet, Transport and Health. Includes: water, carbohydrates, lipids, mass transport, cardiac cycle, haemoglobin, atherosclerosis, CVD risk factors, membrane transport, proteins, enzymes, DNA, protein synthesis, mutations, inheritance, cystic fibrosis, genetic screening, and core practicals CP1–CP4.

Unit 2 (WBI12/01) – Cells, Development, Biodiversity and Conservation. Includes: cell structure (eukaryotes/prokaryotes), mitosis, meiosis, stem cells, epigenetics, xylem and phloem, speciation, biodiversity (Simpson’s Index), Hardy-Weinberg, conservation, antimicrobials, drug trials, and core practicals CP5–CP8.

Unit 3 (WBI13/01) – Practical Skills in Biology I. Includes: experimental design (IV, DV, CV, control), validity/reliability/accuracy/precision, tables and graphs, standard deviation, rate calculations, hazards and risks, and all 9 core practicals (CP1–CP9).

Unit 4 (WBI14/01) – Energy, Environment, Microbiology and Immunity. Includes: photosynthesis (light-dependent and Calvin cycle, RUBISCO), energy flow (GPP, NPP), nutrient cycles (carbon, nitrogen), succession, bacterial growth, aseptic technique, antimicrobial resistance, humoral and cell-mediated immunity, antibodies, vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, and core practicals CP10–CP13.

Unit 5 (WBI15/01) – Respiration, Internal Environment, Coordination and Gene Technology. Includes: respiration (glycolysis, Krebs cycle, ETC, chemiosmosis), anaerobic respiration, muscles (sliding filament theory, fast/slow twitch), kidney (ADH, loop of Henle), action potential, synapses, eye (rods and cones), plant hormones (auxins, gibberellins, phytochromes), genetic engineering, PCR, gel electrophoresis, transcription factors, and the pre-released scientific article strategy.

Unit 6 (WBI16/01) – Practical Skills in Biology II. Includes: fixed 4-question paper format, statistical tests (t-test, chi-squared, Spearman’s rank, Pearson’s correlation), null hypotheses, critical values, Q4 full investigation framework (preliminary work, method, results table/graph, limitations), and all 9 A2 core practicals (CP10–CP18).

Key features across all units:

Priority heatmaps – Red-rated (critical) topics appear in almost every sitting. Revise these first.

Top 15 penalised errors per unit – Direct from examiner reports, including: ‘signal’ instead of ‘impulse’ (Unit 5), B cells vs plasma cells (Unit 4), CV control method lacking precision (Unit 3 and 6), and standard form errors (all units).

Topic frequency analysis – Based on 10–16 past paper sittings per unit (2019–2024).

Model answers – 1-mark to 6-mark levels-based responses with examiner commentary.

Mathematical skills modules – Worked examples for cardiac output, magnification, percentage change, standard form, ratios, Q10, Hardy-Weinberg, Simpson’s Index, respiratory quotient, and statistical test calculations.

Evidence-based exam predictions – High-confidence, medium-confidence, and wildcard predictions anchored to examiner concern and frequency.

Command words decoded – Precise guidance for ‘explain’, ‘discuss’, ‘determine’, ‘compare and contrast’, ‘justify’, ‘comment on’, and ‘suggest’.

Student weakness profiles – Diagnostic tools to identify whether a student has strong content but weak technique, maths gaps, poor application, or time management issues.

Revision plans – 6-week and 4-week intensive plans, plus a final week protocol for each unit.

Teacher planning tools – Diagnostic activities, common misconceptions registers, and differentiated revision strategies (E/D → C, C/B → A, A → A*).

How I use this bundle:

For students – Start with the priority heatmap for your target unit. Use retrieval prompts (Section 14 in each guide) daily. Practise 6-mark levels-based questions using the protocols. For Unit 5, allocate weekly time to the pre-released scientific article from release date. For Units 3 and 6, master the experimental design checklist and statistical conclusion template.

For teachers – Use diagnostic activities at the start of each revision block to assign students to weakness profiles. The common misconceptions registers help target whole-class errors that appear across multiple examiner reports. The differentiated revision tables (three tiers) allow you to assign focused work by target grade.
