Help children understand, find and recall number bonds to 10 with this colourful, practical intervention toolkit for Reception and Year 1.

Designed for an adult working with an individual or small group, the pack supports short 10–15-minute sessions. Children begin with real objects, move on to pictures and part–whole models, then practise recording addition equations.

Understanding comes before speed, with opportunities to build, talk, draw, check and explain.

What’s included?

• 30 A4 portrait pages, including adult guidance and answers.
• Six short intervention session outlines with objectives, warm-ups, activities, questions and exit checks.
• A starting-point check and reusable progress record.
• Six practical mats, including ten-frames, horizontal and vertical part–whole models, picnic plates and a hiding game.
• Two sets of number cards from 0–10, ten-frame picture cards, missing-part cards and two-colour counters.
• Eight scaffolded recording sheets covering completing ten-frames, colouring parts, matching bonds, finding every pair, swapping parts and missing numbers.
• Two cooperative games: Find My Partner and Make Ten and Cover.
• Picnic word problems and a Spot and Fix the Mistake activity.
• A short review and three simple home-practice games.
• Answers and observation guidance.

Children explore every pair from 0 + 10 to 10 + 0, including zero as a meaningful part. They investigate how the parts can change while the whole remains ten, and how swapping the parts keeps the same total.

Picture support, speaking stems, manipulatives and number banks help children access the activities. Further challenge comes through explaining, finding patterns and checking mistakes.

Files included:
• Printable colour PDF.
• Matching editable Word document.

Use with simple classroom equipment such as counters, cubes and pencils. Printable counters are included, but ordinary classroom counters work too.
