Moving On is a complete five-lesson unit that helps secondary pupils (S1-S4 / Years 7-11) understand change and mixed feelings, prepare for what is coming, cope when things are different, explore pathways after school and make a personal Moving On plan. It suits PSHE, Health and Wellbeing, careers and transition work, form time and ASN/SEND bases, and is ready to teach with no preparation beyond printing the workbook.

The five lessons (50 to 60 minutes each)

  1. Change Happens: Name different kinds of change, describe feelings about change and know that mixed feelings are normal.
  2. Ready for Change: Find out what will happen, prepare for a change step by step and ask questions to feel more secure.
  3. Coping When It鈥檚 Different: Spot signs that change is hard, use coping tools and keep some routines steady.
  4. My Future Pathways: Explore options after school, link my strengths to options and know where to get advice.
  5. My Moving On Plan: Pull my learning into one plan, choose supports and people to help and plan a first step.

What is included

  • Five PowerPoint lessons with learning intentions, success criteria, starters, a fictional scenario, an activity, an exit ticket and full speaker notes.
  • Unit plan and teacher guide with timings, differentiation, misconceptions, assessment evidence and framework links.
  • Pupil workbook (7 pages, Word and PDF) with tasks for every lesson and a personal plan template.
  • Posters and cards (9 slides, PowerPoint and PDF).
  • Staff quick guide with teaching tips and when to escalate.
  • End-of-unit check (20 marks) with full marking scheme and grade bands.

Designed with care
Pupils choose what to write and what to share, and can pass on any task. Scenarios use fictional pupils. The unit is education, not therapy, and uses no labels or diagnoses. Safeguarding guidance is built into the teacher notes. Wren the bird mascot gives a friendly, consistent look that is not childish.

Frameworks
Scotland: CfE Health and Wellbeing (planning for choices and changes; mental and emotional wellbeing), Developing the Young Workforce and career education standards, Third Level; GIRFEC; Skills Development Scotland for next steps.
England: supports PSHE (managing change, careers), Gatsby benchmarks for careers guidance, the SEND Code of Practice preparing for adulthood outcomes and National Careers Service.
Check your own school and local authority policy. This is general information, not legal advice.
