Where is Pip hiding? Who is outside the cave? Who is jumping over the puddle?

Meet Pip, Poppy, Bumble, Boggle, Ziggy and Pickle — six friendly monsters ready to help children explore positional language through pictures, conversation and purposeful play.

Little Monsters, Big Adventures! includes 24 illustrated PowerPoint slides, progressing from introducing position words to comparing characters in shared scenes. Display the resource on a classroom screen for shared discussion or use it with a small group.

What’s included?

  • 12 introductory slides featuring a clear illustration, a question, a model sentence with the preposition highlighted, and a practical “Let’s play!â€ prompt.
  • 12 challenge slides asking children to look closely and choose the monster in the correct position. Answers are kept off the slides, with “Let’s talk!â€ prompts encouraging explanation and discussion.

Vocabulary explored

In, on, under, above, below, behind, in front of, beside, between, over, through and outside, alongside movement around an object.

Take the learning into play

Share a slide, explore the picture together and invite children to recreate the scene using toys, blocks, boxes, baskets or tunnels.

Children can point, name a monster or describe its colour. They do not need to read independently or remember the characters’ names to join in.

Try hiding a toy behind a box, building a tunnel to crawl through or taking turns giving positional instructions. The prompts help adults extend the conversation while keeping the learning playful.

Suitable for

Nursery, Reception, early KS1 and children practising positional vocabulary. The visual scenes also offer opportunities to model language with children learning English as an additional language.

Format

One PowerPoint file (.pptx) containing 24 slides, with one illustrated card per slide in the original A4 landscape proportions.

The cards are embedded as complete images to preserve their artwork and lettering. Text and illustrations are not individually editable. Slides can be reordered, duplicated or removed.

This is the PowerPoint version of the Little Monsters, Big Adventures! printable cards and contains the same 24 illustrations and activities.

A digital download; no physical resources are included.
