Little Athletes: Run, Jump, Throw and Keep Healthy is a fun KS1 resource designed to introduce children to a range of athletics activities while encouraging them to enjoy being active and learn about keeping healthy. It can be used as a scheme of work or dipped into as and when required.

The resource explores high jump, long jump, sprinting, javelin, hurdles, shot put, relay and discus, followed by a celebration podium page.
Each activity includes a bright colour illustration, a black-and-white picture for children to colour, and a short, child-friendly sentence such as “I throw the discus as far as I can.” The pages can be used alongside practical PE sessions to develop fundamental movement skills including running, jumping, throwing, balancing and coordination.

The resource also provides opportunities for reading, speaking, learning new sporting vocabulary and discussing healthy habits such as exercise, drinking water, eating well and resting.

The resource is ideal for PE lessons, classroom activities, athletics topics, healthy-living work and KS1 sports day preparation.

Included is a planning grid giving 14 ideas for using the resource with young children.
