Lit Sprint is a fast-paced, printable English revision game suitable for students from First Year to Sixth Year, including Transition Year.

Students work in pairs or small teams. On each turn, one student takes a card and has 30 seconds to describe as many of its six terms as possible while their teammates try to guess the answers. They may not say any part of the term, spell it, translate it or use rhyming clues.

Each card contains six colour-coded terms, with one term assigned to every year group from First Year to Sixth Year. The terms become progressively more challenging as students move down the card. Each year group has its own scoring guide, so familiar terms remain accessible while more advanced answers earn additional points. This built-in differentiation allows the same board and deck to be used across multiple classes and ability levels.

The 600 terms include:

• Literary and literacy terminology
• Popular and classic books
• Authors and poets
• Famous poems and plays
• Literary characters
• Shakespearean texts
• Irish writers and literature
• Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate English content
• Film, media and communication terminology

WHAT IS INCLUDED?

• One printable A3 Lit Sprint game board
• 100 game cards containing 600 English terms
• Ten A4 card sheets with ten cards per page
• Six colour-coded rules and scoring pages
• Separate guidance for First, Second, Third, TY, Fifth and Sixth Year
• 15 printable literary character counters
• One-page teacher guide
• Full printing, preparation and gameplay instructions

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Teachers only need to provide:

• One standard die
• A 30-second timer, such as a sand timer, phone timer or student timekeeper

WHY IT WORKS

Lit Sprint encourages students to:

• Recall key English terminology
• Recognise writers, texts, poems and characters
• Explain ideas clearly in their own words
• Strengthen speaking and listening skills
• Make connections between previous and current learning
• Develop confidence through low-pressure revision
• Work collaboratively and communicate effectively

PRINTING INFORMATION

The board is designed to be printed in A3 and laminated for repeated use. The cards, counters, teacher guide and rules pages are designed for A4 printing.

For the most durable result, print and laminate the card sheets before cutting out the individual cards.

Colour printing is recommended because each year group has its own colour. However, the game can still be used in black and white: the clues always appear in order from First Year at the top to Sixth Year at the bottom.

The same board, cards and counters can be reused with different classes throughout the school year, making Lit Sprint ideal for revision lessons, end-of-term classes, literacy activities, oral language practice, substitute cover work and engaging classroom competitions.

One game. Six levels. 600 English terms.

Describe it. Guess it. Race to the finish!
