KS3 German imperative with a Christmas twist: baking vocabulary, real recipes, du/ihr/Sie commands, dialogue and test. Year 8-9, zero prep, with answers.

Plätzchen backen: Rezepte & Imperativ teaches the German imperative through something every student loves – Christmas baking. Students learn ingredients and kitchen verbs, read real German recipes, practise all three imperative forms and finish by writing their own recipe. Every task is a genuine language exercise – no colouring, no cutting.

What’s included (17 pages):

  • Teacher notes with a page overview and a suggested 4-lesson plan
  • Ingredients: 12 picture cards (Mehl, Zucker, Butter, Ei, Zimt, Mandeln …) + quantities table (Gramm, Esslöffel, Prise, Päckchen, Tafel, Glas)
  • In the kitchen: 8 kitchen tools + 10 baking verbs, separable verbs marked
  • Vocabulary exercises: odd one out with reasons, quantities, verb + noun collocations, numbers in words
  • Recipe – Omas Butterplätzchen (it really works!) with true/false, questions, doubling the recipe for 80 biscuits and „mit + Dativ" practice
  • Grammar page: imperative du / ihr / Sie, 6 clear rules (e → i, no umlaut, verbs ending in -t/-d, separable verbs, sein)
  • Imperative exercise 1: du-forms, du → ihr, du → Sie
  • Imperative exercise 2: error correction, recipe infinitive → imperative (like real German recipes), react to situations
  • Dialogue – In der Weihnachtsbäckerei: Oma bakes Vanillekipferl with her grandchildren. Sort 9 imperatives into du and ihr, true/false, questions
  • Recipe – Zimtsterne: gap-fill in the Sie-form + rewrite in the du-form
  • Writing: sequencing words (zuerst, dann, danach …) with correct word order, Kinderpunsch recipe from notes, e-mail to a German friend (60–80 words)
  • Revision test (25 points)
  • Full answer key (2 pages) + extension ideas

Ideal for:

  • KS3 German – Year 8 and Year 9 (strong Year 7 groups too)
  • Teaching or revising the imperative in a memorable context
  • Food and drink topics, the last weeks of term, cover lessons and homework
  • CEFR A2, homeschool and tutoring – or a real class baking session!

  • Lots of real practice: 10+ exercise types plus a test
  • Instructions in simple German with an English translation
  • Clear, festive design – all illustrations made for this pack
