KS1 Sentence Writing | Illustrated Lessons, Starters & Intervention Activities
Help early writers move from “I have an idea to a clear written message.
Say • Build • Write combines 30 structured lessons with illustrated everyday scenes, sentence starters, primary writing lines and hands-on practice. A consistent Look → Say → Build → Write → Check routine reduces guesswork while varied tasks keep the thinking purposeful.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Years 1–2 / KS1, chosen by readiness. Use for guided writing, small-group sentence support and extra composition practice. Adults may need to read directions and word banks.
TWO SUPPORT FORMATS, ONE SHARED TASK
A includes a sentence starter. B leaves sentence construction open. Both have the same prompt, picture, word bank and primary lines. Choose one format per learner; there is no need to print both.
MORE THAN REPEATED WRITING PROMPTS
Children choose a complete idea, order chunks, add a useful detail, join related ideas, explain a reason, repair a sentence and write short connected messages. Prompts include I can help, My surprise box, A gift for someone and A thank-you note.
WHAT YOU RECEIVE — PER PAPER EDITION
• 74-page student workbook: 30 lessons in A/B formats (60 lesson pages), 8 assessment pages, 4 reusable tools, cover and quick start.
• 44-page teacher guide: sequence plans, answer models, six explicit teaching scripts, three scored sample responses, rubric, progress record, station/clinic answers and classroom-feedback sheet.
• 18-page hands-on toolkit: six station mats with matching cut-apart cards, twelve sentence-clinic cards, a reusable response mat, cover and instructions.
• 9 original AI-assisted black-and-white scenes, reused thoughtfully across the lessons.
136 pages per edition. Both US Letter and UK A4 are included: 272 PDF pages total. The two editions repeat the same tasks with local wording and paper sizes; they are not 272 unique activities.
SIX SKILL SEQUENCES
Complete ideas • Useful details • Where and when • Join and explain • Reread and repair • Write for a reader
LOW-PREP LESSONS; REUSABLE STATIONS
Print one lesson format. Student practice pages use black-and-white artwork and primary lines. Stations require cutting once; lamination is optional. No weekday labels. A separate planning page supports drawing when helpful.
BEFORE YOU BUY
View the 11-page preview to inspect the actual pictures, lines, tasks and teacher guidance. Pictures start the conversation; some prompts ask children to imagine another possibility. This is supplemental composition practice, not controlled decodable reading, a complete phonics programme, or a tested intervention with guaranteed results. PDF files are not editable. No physical product is supplied.
