This is the seventh lesson in the Key Stage 3 Climate Change unit. Students explore how climate change is transforming the Alpine landscape in this engaging lesson. Students investigate the retreat of the Rh么ne Glacier using historical and modern photographs, geographical evidence and statistics.

They explore why glaciers are shrinking, examine the social, economic and environmental impacts of glacier retreat, and consider how Alpine communities are adapting to a changing environment.

The lesson culminates in a speech-writing task, where students use geographical evidence to deliver an Alpine warning and explain why disappearing glaciers matter.

Includes:

Rh么ne Glacier photographic comparison

Alps location map and C.L.O.C.C. activity

Glacier retreat factfile and questions

Impacts of melting glaciers categorisation activity

Adaptation strategies investigation

Flow chart explaining glacier retreat

Final speech-writing task with structured writing frame

A complete lesson designed to develop geographical knowledge, interpretation of evidence and extended writing skills.

Hope this saves you some valuable planning time!
