Help pupils explain what variables and the equals sign mean, then solve and check one-step equations. A ready-to-print teaching sequence for approximately ages 10–12, selected by readiness.

Start with meaning: in the actual task 7 + 5 = [ ] + 4, the missing number is 8 because both sides must equal 12. The pack connects this equality reasoning to expressions, substitution and inverse operations.

What’s included: a 15-page teaching pack, readiness check, guided models, independent practice, reasoning, word problems, home practice and separate worked answers. Twelve editable PowerPoint teaching slides include teacher notes. Editable teaching text is also supplied.

Seven files in the ZIP: four matching A4/US Letter colour and black-and-white PDFs, the teaching PowerPoint, editable text and quick-start guidance. Choose one print edition; these are the same 15 teaching pages in alternative formats.

Whole numbers including zero, with labelled decimal/reasoning stretch.
