A complete, no-prep 100-mark worksheet on infectious and non-infectious diseases — ready to use for lessons, homework, or revision with KS3 Biology students aged 11-14.

Infectious diseases are caused by pathogens such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, and protists, and can spread from one organism to another. Non-infectious diseases cannot spread between people and are instead linked to lifestyle factors or genetics. This worksheet covers all key concepts from the topic in full.
Structured across three sections of progressive difficulty: Section 1 (30 marks) covers knowledge recall through multiple choice questions on pathogens, measles, and vaccination; a true or false table with eight statements about infectious and non-infectious diseases; and a fill-in-the-blank passage using ten key vocabulary words. Section 2 (40 marks) builds understanding through questions on how measles spreads and how to prevent it; why antibiotics treat tuberculosis but not viral infections; the role of the Irish Famine in illustrating plant disease; data table analysis on non-infectious disease deaths; a discussion question on poverty and lifestyle; type 2 diabetes symptoms and management; and a disease comparison table. Section 3 (30 marks) challenges students with an evaluation of vaccination as a prevention strategy; an extended response on why non-infectious diseases disproportionately affect people in poverty; a four-part comparison of infectious and non-infectious diseases; and a patient scenario requiring diagnosis and lifestyle advice. A full answer key with detailed marking guidance is included.

Also available: a companion extension pack with four enrichment activities, or save £1 with the complete lesson bundle — both listed on the iNewittAll TES store.
