Everything you need to take a class through Composition 2 in a DAW — even if you have never opened one.

Composition 2 is where the marks go missing. Students write a brief they cannot deliver, build a piece out of library loops that earns them nothing, and write the commentary from memory in the last twenty minutes. This unit is built to stop all three.

It assumes you can read a score and hear a balance problem, and that you have never used music technology in a classroom. Every BandLab step is either modelled on a slide or scripted for you word for word, including what to say and which deliberate mistake to make in front of the class.

What’s in the pack

Full Presentation — a reference students return to across two to four weeks, not a single lesson. Four claims to argue with, the six-step workflow, three compositional devices modelled step by step, and the assessment criteria in plain language.

Five lesson plans — full starter / main / plenary format with the questions written in. Guidance included for running it across four weeks rather than two.

Student workbook (editable) — the spine of the unit. Brief, process log, commentary template, peer check and confidence rating.
Teacher’s guide (3pp) — the whole unit in outline, with pacing, differentiation and assessment cues.

Additional information — think-aloud scripts, software and access notes, and the reasoning behind the design.

Question bank — recall starters, three checkpoints and misconception re-checks, so the learning survives the gaps between coursework sessions.

**Built against the current syllabus

Written against the Cambridge IGCSE Music 0410 syllabus for examination in 2026, 2027 and 2028 (version 4, March 2026).

What it covers

Composition 2 in full: choosing an area of study, writing a brief you can actually answer, composing in BandLab, the official commentary template, and the submission checklist. It does not cover Composition 1 — different forces are required across the two, so that one needs settling first.

*Alternative DAW versions available soon, including Ableton & Logic"

Software

Designed to for BandLab, a free web-accessible platform that requires no installation.
