This fully resourced GCSE lesson examines how the Nazi police state operated through fear, surveillance and the everyday choices of ordinary Germans. Rather than focusing only on the Gestapo and SS, the lesson explores how intimidation, legality and civilian cooperation helped the system to function.

Students follow the experiences of a single ordinary German citizen using a living graph task to track rising stress and pressure over time.
