History GCSE Medicine Edexcel KT5 L1 Context of 20th Century Medicine Western Front (Fully Resourced).

Do Now retrieval: students recap what they already know about World War I and medicine from earlier periods, establishing prior knowledge.

Mini-teach on the state of medicine c1900:

Hospitals and aseptic surgery.

Discovery and early use of X-rays.

Blood transfusion progress and limitations.
Students complete guided notes with model examples.

2 features practice: students are shown model answers for a “Describe two features” exam question (on aseptic surgery, early X-rays, or blood transfusion) and then practise writing their own with sentence starters.

4-mark follow-up practice:

Pupils study a source on X-rays before 1914.
