This 32 slide resource is excellent for developing exam technique and helping students feel confident when tackling exam-style questions. It starts at KS3, where students can master three key skills: source analysis using COPNOP, PEEL paragraphs, and ‘How far do you agree?’ paragraphs using a balanced argument structure. These question styles provide a strong foundation that students can then build upon when they begin Edexcel GCSE History.

The KS4 cards include guidance for every type of Edexcel exam question. Each card clearly breaks the question down step-by-step, showing students exactly what they need to include and in what order. For example, source questions build upon the familiar COPNOP structure but show students where to develop their answer further by adding limitations, helping them understand how their KS3 skills progress into GCSE-level responses.

Each card also explains which paper the question appears on, how to answer it, the steps to follow, useful sentence starters and a full example answer. They work particularly well when printed back-to-back and hole-punched together, giving students constant access to structures and sentence starters when attempting exam-style questions and therefore helping to build confidence and independence over time.

The resource is fully editable in PowerPoint, so it can easily be adapted to suit your own topics. My examples are based on Edexcel Medicine Through Time, Anglo-Saxon and Norman England, Superpower Relations and the Cold War, and Weimar and Nazi Germany.
