This is an inquiry-based, fully scaffolded lesson sequence on Types of Violence, with a specific focus on Johan Galtung鈥檚 theory of Structural and Cultural Violence. The material is carefully structured to support conceptual understanding without relying on heavy reading; all content is broken down into clear, accessible chunks, making it suitable for mixed-ability and EAL classrooms.

The lessons use a wide range of contemporary, real-world examples, including the death of Alexei Navalny, violence against Dalits in India, police brutality in the USA and Russia, and Islamophobia. Throughout, students are guided to link these cases back to key Global Politics concepts such as legitimacy, justice, and state responsibility.

There are eight differentiated tasks, all fully resourced, combining discussion, guided analysis, and optional research. Strong emphasis is placed on visual materials and structured questioning, supporting EAL learners while maintaining academic challenge. Due to the depth of analysis required, the sequence is designed to run over at least two one-hour lessons.

The resource is fully aligned with the current IBDP Global Politics syllabus and the new syllabus starting in 2025. It is ready to use immediately, with no branding or gimmicks, and is easily editable. Video links are included in slide notes and the ZIP file, alongside relevant articles in accessible formats. The materials transfer easily to Teams, Google Classroom, or other online platforms, and also work well as a paper-based lesson. A Word document is provided for students, alongside a PowerPoint designed to guide discussion and support teaching.
