Is there such a thing as a ‘perfect family’?

A fully resourced GCSE RE lesson introducing the topic of Relationships and Families, designed as Lesson 1 in a complete unit.

The lesson explores students’ ideas about what makes a “perfect family”, encouraging them to consider different types of families, expectations, and how family life has changed over time. This provides a strong foundation for later topics such as marriage, gender roles and religious views.

Through discussion, reflection and structured activities, students begin to question whether there is such a thing as an “ideal” family and how cultural, social and personal values can influence our views.

This lesson is ideal as an engaging starting point for the Relationships & Families unit, helping students build key concepts and vocabulary that are developed in later lessons.
