The planned 18-slide Google Slides presentation provides a structured teaching sequence, including introductory retrieval activities, key explanations, diagrams, guided application and independent assessment opportunities.

The accompanying 10-page Student Workbook develops understanding through complementary activities rather than simply repeating the presentation.

Help GCSE Psychology students understand how memory works through clear explanations, everyday examples and structured opportunities to apply psychological knowledge.

Designed for Key Stage 4 learners in Years 10–11, this planned lesson pack focuses on the processes of encoding, storage and retrieval, alongside the multi-store model of memory.

Students begin by exploring their own experiences of remembering and forgetting before examining how psychologists explain memory processes.

The teaching sequence introduces sensory memory, short-term memory and long-term memory, including the roles of attention and rehearsal. Students consider how information is encoded, retained and retrieved, using familiar situations to make abstract psychological concepts easier to understand.

The lesson also introduces the work of Atkinson and Shiffrin, encouraging students to recognise that psychological models are useful explanations rather than literal representations of the brain.
