Teach Functional Skills English Entry Level 3 spelling with an organised pack of 18 adaptable units, an editable 98-slide PowerPoint, printable spelling worksheets and a matching scheme of work.

Designed for teenage and adult learners, the resources link clear explanations of spelling patterns with practice, original short texts, independent recall and written application. The consistent, uncluttered layout supports focused teaching in FE, adult education, alternative provision, small-group intervention and one-to-one tuition.

WHAT IS INCLUDED?

• Student Workbook – 44 pages of spelling practice, contextual application, review and progress checks.
• Word and Text Book – 22 pages, including unit word banks, 18 original short texts, word meanings and spelling strategies.
• Answers and Checks – 26 pages of answers, example responses and sentences for teacher-led spelling checks.
• Scheme of Work – 27 pages with unit objectives, resource and slide references, flexible teaching suggestions, curriculum mapping and optional extension word banks for every unit.
• Editable PowerPoint – 98 slides with prominent word examples, visual emphasis on key letters, concise teaching cues and checks for understanding.

All four documents are supplied in editable Word and printable PDF formats, alongside the PowerPoint: nine files in total. Page counts include introductory and reference pages; Word and PDF versions contain the same content.

SPELLING COVERAGE

The pack is mapped to the DfE Functional Skills English Entry Level 3 spelling requirements. It covers all 89 distinct words in Table 4, the 22 specified homophone and near-homophone pairs, and examples of the additional Entry Level 3 endings and word types. Optional word banks extend practice beyond the core examples and are clearly identified as additional material.

FLEXIBLE TEACHING AND PRACTICE

Use the units as a planned spelling sequence or select particular areas for revision and intervention. The slides introduce the learning points, while the companion resources provide opportunities to practise, revisit and apply spellings. Teachers can adapt the pace, amount of support and choice of practice words to their learners.

This is a focused spelling teaching pack, not a complete Functional Skills English qualification course. Earlier Entry Level 1 and 2 knowledge remains a prerequisite. The progress checks are classroom resources, not awarding-body assessment papers.

Created by Kate Coldrick. A companion to the Functional Skills English Level 1 and Level 2 teaching packs.
